The Social Network (Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross)

(2010)
All film score fans have done it – bought a soundtrack, and wished they hadn’t bothered. I spent all of £3.79 on this piece of junk and quite honestly, it wasn’t even worth that.
The score’s only theme, seemingly inspired by the sound Windows makes when USB devices are plugged in, heard first in a series of extremely slow piano renderings in very first cue ‘Hand Covers Bruise’ is virtually impossible to hear over the hideous grinding noise that drones on and on and one throughout the entire score. Exactly what instrumentation was used to perform the score I don’t know, but seriously, it sounds like it was performed on a second hand keyboard in somebody’s bedroom.
I was going to write a long rant about how much I despised the contents of this album (I’m not sure calling it music would be accurate), but I couldn’t really decide how best to convey my thoughts, and frankly, I’d rather spend time reviewing something worth listening to. Therefore, I eventually decided that a pictorial example would be better. And so – here is a cute little bear demonstrating how this score made me feel *:
